Discrete Structural Systems Modeling: Benchmarking of LS-DEM and LMGC90 with Seismic Experiments

Various papers have presented different methods for computations of mechanics and kinematics discrete structural systems. However, little has been done in comparing benchmarking the seismic response from two discrete-system-models with experiments. This paper presents a detailed performance comparison between models—level set element method (LS-DEM) Logiciel de Mécanique Gérant le Contact (LMGC90), calibrated shake table experiments conducted on four concrete-block configurations. Theories both models are thoroughly explained compared. The simulation results benchmarked against experimental data. Finally, principal significance this effort is discussed.
